There's no hospital on post. Know where to go.
Fort Drum has a clinic, not a hospital. Emergencies, hospital stays and births happen in Watertown. Save these four numbers before you arrive.
Where you'll get care.
In an emergency, call 911. For everything else, this is who does what.
Guthrie Army Health Clinic
On post at 11050 Mount Belvedere Blvd. An outpatient clinic: primary care and specialty clinics, with no emergency room, no hospital beds and no labor and delivery. Soldiers get care here, and family members can be assigned a primary care doctor here or with a civilian doctor in the TRICARE network.
Samaritan Medical Center
Watertown's hospital, at 830 Washington St. The emergency room, hospital stays, maternity care, and a provisional Level III adult trauma center (designated by New York State in 2024). It accepts TRICARE. The region's Level I trauma center, for adults and children, is Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
TRICARE, in plain words.
TRICARE is the military's health plan. Fort Drum is in the East Region, run by Humana Military.
Enroll when you arrive
Call TRICARE East at 1-800-444-5445 or update your enrollment at tricare.mil so your coverage and your primary care doctor move to Fort Drum.
Prime or Select
Prime gives you a primary care manager, at Guthrie or a civilian network doctor, who sends you to specialists with a referral. Select lets you see any TRICARE-authorized provider without a referral, but you pay a yearly deductible and a share of each visit.

The Nurse Advice Line answers 24/7 at 1-800-874-2273 (press 1) and tells you whether to go to urgent care, the emergency room, or book an appointment.
Dental is separate
Soldiers go to the dental clinic on post. Family members use the TRICARE Dental Program, run by United Concordia: enroll through TRICARE.
Coverage and referral rules change. Check your plan at tricare.mil before you book non-emergency care.

Book with OB-GYN
Guthrie Army Health Clinic books OB-GYN appointments at 1-888-838-1303 or (315) 844-0220. Bring your records from your last doctor.
Know where you'll deliver
Samaritan Medical Center's Car-Freshner Center for Women and Children in Watertown, home to the only Level II NICU north of Syracuse. Maternity: (315) 785-4050.
Sign up for WIC
Food and nutrition help for pregnant women and young kids. The Jefferson County WIC office is at 238 Arsenal St, Watertown: (315) 782-9222.
